I read an article over the weekend in the NY Times about the upcoming holiday season, and how retailers are expecting sales to be flat this year.
Retailers aren't necessarily taking this prediction as a "bad thing", but rather a sign that retail spending is on its way to recovery. (At least sales aren't expected to decline.)
Another interesting comment that the article made, however, is that customers are temporarily changing their spending habits. This may mean that if you can tailor your business' products or services to meet these needs - you may well have a very profitable holiday season.
For example, buyers may focus on more "at-home entertainment" products such as those related with cooking, TV or movie items, family games etc.
