Work-at-Home Job Scams Thriving

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

There are many reasons why people want to work from home. With the growth of the internet, there are even more opportunities available to work from home - but also more opportunities for scam artists to take advantage of people looking for this type for work.

A simple way to avoid this issue is to start one's own business rather than buy into an opportunity. Get a business start-up guide from your local library, bookstore or online. Network with other entrepreneurs in the industry with whom you can form valuable partnerships and get your questions answered.

However, business opportunities generally offer the advantages of an all-in-one system that has been tested by others to work. You can follow instructions and receive business guidance that can be hard to come by. Not all business opportunities are bad. In fact, well-known franchises like McDonalds and Subway are essentially business opportunities, and those are obviously not scams.

If you want to work from home in a business opportunity, be smart and do your research. Make sure that you can contact the company you would purchase the opportunity from. Find out what the Better Business Bureau has to say about them. See if you can contact other entrepreneurs who have worked with them to find out their experiences.

Stay clear of business opportunities that sound too good to be true. All successful businesses take time and effort, although get rich quick schemes will probably be advertised forever.

Monday, June 28, 2010

I just read an interesting article on the changing IPO market.

An interesting point is made that the small businesses that are surviving this recession are the strongest. They are attractive to companies that want to buy them, and at the same time, attractive to venture capitalists that want to back them.

For a small business looking to progress forward, this is a great time for a company to have an IPO. For business owners who want to sell their businesses, there is also the opportunity to get a significantly higher purchase price for their company. Read Article.

Daycare Advertising

Friday, June 25, 2010

Home Business ExpertRunning a daycare business can keep you very busy, but before you start your daycare, you need to get customers - or you will not be busy at all.

Many to-be daycare business owners do a terrific job at entertaining and caring for children. They are responsible, reliable and hard working. However, child care providers generally do not have lots of experience in marketing or advertising - why would they? Their background, skills and knowledge lie in child care.

The good news is that a degree in marketing is not required to successfully acquire new customers. Even without an advertising background, you can manage simple marketing tasks on your own without having to hire a marketing professional - unless you want to, of course. To do your own marketing, you simply need to start out with a little market research and planning.

Monday, June 21, 2010

You may create extraordinary gift baskets, but unless you have customers who know about them and buy them, your gift basket business won't make any money. With proper planning and focus, finding your customers doesn't have to be difficult, and you don't even have to be a salesperson.

Gift Basket BusinessSince gift baskets can be purchased by many different types of customers (individuals, businesses, men, women, last-minute shoppers, etc..) the first step is to figure out the target market for your gift baskets. Who will want to buy your products?

How to Find Customers for Your Bakery

Saturday, June 19, 2010

Start a Bakery BusinessBakeries can thrive on word-of-mouth advertising, referrals and repeat business. However, they first need those first initial customers to get that word-of-mouth business. Since a bakery costs money to operate since day one (and before), it's important to bring in customers as quickly as possible to generate revenue.

A prime reason why bakeries don't succeed - even if they produce wonderful baked goods - is because they did not put a big enough emphasis on advertising and did not get the income they needed in order to survive.

Now when I say "a big emphasis", I don't mean that you have to spend your life running a bakery marketing campaign. However, it does take some thought and planning to figure out how you will attract the customers you need and then provide them with pastries, muffins, breads, sandwiches, etc and excellent service that they want so that they will return.

Drawing up a marketing plan can actually take less time than struggling at the last minute with advertisements, wondering which ads will work and which won't. Nowadays, marketing plan templates are available online, and they walk you the planning process fairly quickly. You can also find sample marketing plans on the internet and find out how other bakeries are promoting their businesses, plus possible time and costs involved.

So you're ready to put together a marketing plan. What are some of the promotional strategies that work well for bakeries? Read more: Marketing a Bakery

Open Your Own Driving Range

Sunday, June 6, 2010

Operating a driving range may look easy. However, if you want to start a driving range business, you want to put serious thought into how you will attract customers. Other competing driving ranges can have a big impact on your business income, so you want to have a plan as to how you will drive traffic through your doors - before you launch.

Location obviously plays an important role. A convenient and centralized location is a great benefit that can bring in customers during their lunch hours or even after work. Golfers may drive a significant distance to play a full game of golf, but not usually to practice at the driving range.

Open a Driving RangeDepending on your location, your market and the competition, you may want to consider offering additional amenities at your driving range. This also adds to the convenience factor. Some ideas are a small restaurant or snack bar, bar with large screen TVs, putting and chipping greens or golf pro shop with golf supplies and training aids. You could even partner with local golf instructors and advertise lessons to attract new golfers.

Another way to get more customers is to run a higher-quality driving range. This doesn’t mean you have to spend lots of cash, but having good balls, manicured greens, nice targets, other features like club washers, etc., can boost customer attendance and even bring in golfers from farther-away areas.

How to Start a Magazine Business & Business Plans

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Home Business ExpertMagazine publishing can be an exciting career, but you need to be a person who doesn't mind working long hours. A publisher will always have deadlines to meet, so understand that you must be good at planning and managing your time as well.

Because the magazine industry is competitive, be willing and prepared to get creative, do things differently and try new ideas. For your magazine to stand out and succeed, you need to always be on the cutting edge, delivering new and interesting information that attracts readers on a consistent basis. When you attract more readers, you will be able to get more advertisers - which of course means more money for your magazine.

These days, you can publish a magazine in print or online. You can charge customers a monthly or annual subscription or give your publication away for free, producing income from advertisers alone. Where you publish and how much you charge will depend on your market - and what they want. You also want to consider competing magazines. Ideally, you want to give your prospective customers what they want, but cannot find elsewhere.
